Writing Perks

One of the many perks of having an imagination that can transport you somewhere else at the drop of a coin, ring of a bell, or in any awkward or scary moment is the ability to escape with your eyes open. I remember one cold December, Shawn and I were trying to get to my parents for the holiday and we were on an island, off an island out in the Gulf of Alaska. There was a small craft advisory so a small boat was impossible, the planes were grounded due to strong winds and rain, but we found a larger boat captain willing to get us to the larger island to an easier port than town. I sat holding on, trying to keep myself from being thrown around, and puking as the sea tried to shake us loose. Five minutes in I decided it was a good time to plot a story. I did not really want to be present in my feet so I worked on a story I was currently crafting in my mind. Poor Shawn was left to watch the waves and wind. I came back to myself as we docked and had no problem with seasickness. At least an hour had passed. One of the perks of my imagination, I can make reality disappear for a time.
