Why they are called dragons
When the first settlers landed on the planet, they had been there only a few days and were still trying to adjust to 36 hour earth time days as well as two moons and the greener sky, when a dragon flew in. These settlers were completely unprepared, unconnected to the planet and were living in camps with their shipping containers some of which had been blown over in a recent storm. The camp was a mess and this huge flying creature landed to await an introduction at what she presumed was the edge of this camp.
The humans tried to shoot her.
The nearby territory dragon was appalled when the human’s screamed, ran around, hid and threw things at her. She was forced to protect herself with shields and flew away to warn others about the primitive new-comers that lacked all connection to the planet, were hostile, had poor communication, no organization and no noticeable leadership.
This led the humans to name the frightening flying beast that flew away as a dragon, but it also gave the dragons a bad first impression of humans.
