Tradition
”That is the way things have always been done,” people grump as if that is a viable defense for doing something one way as opposed to another. I actually enjoy traditions, doing something the way my grandmother or great grandmother did things, but I am not stuck in the past either. All too often dragons and humans see the way something was as an excuse to keep something that way today and in the future. It is a shared flaw in our natures that we detest change and like things safe and predictable. There are always some who embrace new and shiny as if it were sent by some god to make things better, which is just as dangerous, or worse. However consider for a moment what would have happened if the first human looked at fire and said, “Not in my cave. That stuff will kill you and the mess is not worth it. Take another skin and wrap yourself in that.” My stories are all about trying something different.
