Time
Have you noticed how slowly time moves while you are sitting at a red light, waiting for the microwave, or staring blankly at the coffee pot waiting for that first cup that starts your brain in the morning? Time moves at a crawl while waiting for good news or bad from the doctor, while hoping to hear from an application or contest, and it moves even slower while waiting in line at the airport when you are eager to be on your way.
On the other hand time zooms by while watching children grow and mature, while summer whisks past in a green filled blur. We hardly notice the years in a great marriage or a good job and the hours at work if you are busy can take you by surprise. Our minds speed up the good, slow down the bad and sometimes if we are very lucky we manage to pause, click a memory to keep somewhere along the way.
Time is our friend, our enemy, our consulation and our fears all rolled into one. We don’t want to miss anything, but we don’t want to be stuck coping with dirty diapers forever either.
