The Spy Continued.

Kerg is a mature dragon, an experienced fighter, with a serious problem. He wants, needs, craves, justice for his dead friend Joons and his small youngster Denu. The council member has promised to pass judgement on the rule breakers, those raiders from between territories if he spies on Grabon, a long time friend and fighting companion.

The last he had seen Grabon, he and his funny pet Heron had been earning challenge coins fighting for pleasure, coins, and the attention of the many females who watched. Kerg suspected that Grabon had grown into his maturity, but he did not wish to make an enemy of a friend,. If Grabon had claimed a territory with his pet and they had found a way to plant his power or even their power together, Kerg had no desire to destroy what they may have built.

Instead of going to find Grabon and see what he would be facing, he flew to find the raiders responsible. Once he knew who he wanted brought to justice, it would make the betrayal of his friend a little less uncomfortable.

The more people Kerg spoke with, the more news he collected, the more he heard about what was happening in Grabon’s territory. Heron was on the council, the first human accepted. The planet accepted claims of human and dragon power blended with Grabon’s own strength adding to the power of the territory. Many of the most powerful fighters were visiting or planning to visit, test their strength on Grabon’s challenge field and visit this market.

Kerg found his own interest and curiosity captured, but he continued to hunt for the raiders. He followed a group close to Grabon’s territory. They were outside the territory, setting up a camp. Kerg flew in to warn his old friend that raiders posed a threat to his clan, but what he found, stunned him.

Humans and dragons were busily all working together. Grabon had a mate, as did Heron. Glinarca, he discovered, had settled there as well with a youngster of her own. Grabon gave fighters single custody of their youngsters, yet took in other youngsters and youth to the territory that needed care. This was no small clan where rules could be bent or broken in secret, it was large, defended, combined species, and defended by power. The raiders were easily discouraged, and Kerg stayed and watched, and got to know the clan.

It did not take Kerg long to realize he should have brought his need for judgement to Heron. His seat on the council was every bit as real as any dragon, but the bargain was struck. To gain judgement, he would need to report back. What options did a dragon have if he wanted the raiders from between territories judged by the rules and justice served as the planet intended.

If only he were a territory dragon, the answers would be simple.
