The Sinus Infection
Like so many people who have lived in masks for the last couple of years, I have avoided many illnesses. For weeks I have been scheduled to meet with a new doctor because my new insurance will not cover my old doctor since I changed networks. So I was anticipating a visit, made arrangements etc. for a Thursday afternoon appointment, not too disruptive for my schedule.
Ah but fate, the gods, Mother Nature, or whatever likes to play with my life. Tuesday evening I had crackling ears, stuffy head, didn’t feel so great. Wednesday was a challenge and I knew I was headed for trouble. By Wednesday evening I called in sick for Thursday. I was cautious, took a Covid test and it was negative.
Well the infection bloomed, my head felt humongous and my sneezing, coughing, head pounding self was carefully medicated to give me as much relief as possible. The time arrived and I found the new building, donned a mask and armed with a bag of meds, a sack full of paperwork, I went in to see the new doctor.
“Oh, you have symptoms? Let me call him and see if he will see you.” Oh dear, maybe I should have cancelled. What was I thinking going to see a doctor while I was sick?
Well I managed to see him, and he seems great, but what a moment. Sometimes the world feels like it has turned upside down. Of course I could have done the appointment on a zoom call. I just recently did a telephone call with a doctor. It did not need to be face to face and I am not so behind the times that I never considered the options.
In the end we concluded our business. I got the antibiotic I needed to fight the infection, some new vaccines, and a new doctor I feel comfortable with. It was a win as far as I’m concerned. Now I just need enough fluids and rest and to not adversely react to the antibiotic. 🤞
