The Learning Curve
Life is all about learning new things. The obvious is technology, but really so many things are out there to learn. I find myself continuously following a path to new information. Nothing makes me happier than finding all kinds of new things to think about.
I am learning about plants, land management, solar systems, bugs, weather patterns, geography, politics, world history, the stock market, money management, small business, and of course whatever is in my current reading. But that is all in my non-professional life.
As part of my job, I am always learning about disabilities, modifications, approaches, methods, latest theories of learning, neurological connections to learning methods, and trauma response. There is regular professional development, and then the ones I pursue because of my specialty and field of interest.
But I live in a culture of continuous growth and learning all the time. Maybe that makes me open to new ideas, or maybe less inclined to jump on new ideas. Sometimes my approach varies, I have been reluctant to give up what works in favor of something that could be hopeful. On a different day, I’ll jump on a new theory that is promising for an hopeless case, and rush to help prove that it works.
For me, I like results. I love learning, but I really love using new information to solve an old problem. To catch a break, read something fun, and find that happy place. 😁
