The Characters
As a writer, just because I lack time or energy to drag my characters out and write down their dialog does not mean they are sitting patiently with their hands folded. In fact they age, get smarter, find new places to live, get into trouble and generally carry on with their own concerns.
When I find the time to sit down with them, they are all in a rush to tell me everything they have been doing. It makes my head spin and gives me a headache until I sort it all out. That can take a couple of days or even a week. People who don’t live like this think writers must be crazy, but we all manage our characters or they find interesting ways to get revenge.
