The Backyard
The mighty Jethro had a freak accident on the stairs awhile back. Some of you may remember when I blogged about it. My aging and increasingly fragile special dog with cognitive issues, fell down the stairs to the basement. He was fine and possibly Shawn and I were more traumatized than he was. Ever since, we carefully block off the entrance to the basement when we go down.
The easiest entrance to our fenced backyard is through the basement, however we have gat entrances on either side of the house. Jethro has not been excited to play back there all alone since we arrived and moved in, but last night he seemed to have a slight change of heart.
In all fairness there was snow on the ground and Jethro loves the snow and enjoys playing, running and such in fresh unmarked snow. I took him to the back last night dressed in snow boots and warm clothes and he ran all over, tracking up the snow and sniffing out the rabbit that had left a few tracks. I had unhooked him and let him run free and I stood near the entrance to the house.
After awhile he forgot I was there and simply ran out his energy and then went to the side. When I moved, he saw me and I hooked him up and brought him in. A couple more sessions like that and he might be able to play back there alone. 😀
Wonderful! My beloved Spitz (now American Eskimo) named Zipper also loved the snow. He usually wore a collar and rope to go outside but, when there was deep snow, he slipped out of the collar easily and raced around, sometimes rolling in the snow!
He also loved to ‘plow’ up the snow, ending with a huge heap of snow on his nose!
I can imagine that was vastly entertaining!
