Telephone People
Some poor fool called while I was in the middle of emailing my editor because I STILL HAD NOTHING IN MY IN BOX from her. Needless to say I was feeling less than kind, but I rushed to answer the phone, swallowing all the ire I had brought up to write the email.
It was someone to confirm giving a free estimate. He had a number of questions about our credit, ownership of the house, and then tried to insist on conditions I had not agreed to in order to come out for a free estimate. I ended up telling him, no, I was not going to do what he was asking, he could accept that or skip the free estimate. He told me he would cancel. I agreed and hung up. I am sure I was barely civil and Shawn heard me identify his rudeness and out of bounds behavior. Oh well, we can get new windows from someone else. Not that our windows are terrible, they aren’t; but with new tech, they have much better than wooden framed windows with seperate storms.
Generally, I make an effort to be kind to people on the phone. Today it was the wrong attitude at the wrong time that set me off. That doesn’t excuse my response, but it does not make him correct either. In any case, no harm no foul, but I was hopping mad for a few minutes this morning.
Good for you!
