Story Building

When people think of a writer, I think they think of story building, the fun part of the work. Building characters and setting and recording things in motion. To be clear, that part has its challenges, but it is the easiest part of the writing adventure. Lately I have been formatting. Now it is an important part of the reading experience and it is challenging for the writer; but it is not a lot of fun, especially not when you are interrupted a few times and forget what you were working on. There are a million tasks that are like that, not too complicated, unless something derails you. Cooking comes to mind, building furniture that comes in a huge heavy flat box, and computer work all have that in common. My brain needs a do not disturb sign.
