Storms and Storms
There are many kinds of storms in our lives. This past week I had two very different ones. We were fortunate to come out of both of them with minimal damage, but not without caution, care, and a plan.
Those spring storms that bring winter and summer together and spin out tornadoes are so scary. This one spit out hail and rain like it would last forever. Oofta, it hit the house like it was trying to break in. We went to the basement when the sirens sounded, alerting other family members and taking our needed supplies. Fortunately our house stood strong and solid, those high winds and twisters passed us by. Lucky us, because look at the news, not everyone was so lucky.
Then we had the emotional storms of spring hit within our family, the changing seasons hit older folks hard sometimes. Actually it doesn’t have an age, but troubles build up and explode leaving hurt feelings and a sense of betrayal in its wake. Some damage can’t be fixed, others will heal with time, and life moves on.
Relationships are fragile and people have to treat them with care because the wrong words can cause lasting damage. But I do my best to think, yell a bit, guard my words and create space. After time, I’ll go back and try and salvage what I can. No relationship is perfect, and most have bumps and growing pains. But as always, I’ll do my best.
Through it all I’ll read to a happy place and find a story to get lost in. Whether your storms and stay safe everyone.
