Storms and Storms

We saw some amazing ice sculpting by Mother Nature this past week. She painted the trees and everything else and it was really pretty spectacular to look at. Unfortunately with the high winds, trees uprooted, power lines went whipping around, poles fell, others snapped in two. Branches blocked icy roads and the power delivery systems broke. Lots of people were left with no power, temps under 20 degrees, and then it snowed, melted, rained, wind battered some more, and then blinding sun.

The brave men and women working for the power companies were dedicated, tireless, and careful. The power came on piece by piece, place by place and people went back home, hoping pipes did not freeze, that basements did not flood, that food did not spoil. Some are still waiting while others assess the damage. So many things go wrong when the house gets cold, when pumps don’t run, when ice covers everything outside.

Roads have been cleared, trees chopped up, stacked wood pieces, ice melted, and snow cleared. Somehow, people still shop, go to work, and do what needs to be done. But nature in all her glory makes an impact on all of us.
It’s a great time to read to a happy place.
