Romance, Language, & Territory Names
Each novel in the NewEarth Series holds at least one romance, or forming of the mating bond, but it is not all focused on the mating pair, it is a continuation of the building of the territory. Each novel adds another piece to the expanding territory so that a whole new culture and society is built combining dragon and human customs and culture.
Many people have asked if the books are suitable for teens, or advanced readers of younger ages. As a retired teacher, well aware of the kinds of books and movies kids today read and watch, I would say that the sensuality and violence rating would land it in the pg-13 category, but the subject matter is aimed at a mature audience. It is not young adult literature and it is not aimed at young people, but rather a more sophisticated audience.
“The writing is simplified,” somone pointed out, the use of contractions very sparing and at times the use of language seems odd. I was trying to give the impression that the humans are speaking a dialect of Universal, a common human language to all areas of earth. The dragons are speaking the equivalent in dragon, and they are forming a new language, a combination of human and dragon. It is all part of the blending of cultures that is taking place in the Combined Territories.
What starts out as Grabon’s Territory becomes the Combined Territories. This is not only in reference to the combined species of the territory, but the territory dragons that combine their strengths and wisdoms. If you haven’t read that far in the series, I don’t want to give too much away, but things keep on changing and growing, as do the characters.
The Combined Territories become significant to the entire planet, not only the Wild Continent, as it is called. They do so many things differently that it becomes a point of curiosity, a tourist destination, as well as a debate on the rights of humans on the planet and in clans and the planetary rules.
While the clan of the Combined Territories may be dedicated to avoiding a species conflict, many other humans and dragons would welcome the challenge.
