Religion
In my books religion is an interesting thing. I have a family of Farmers, Craftsmen, Artisans, Miners, Woodsmen, and even Clergy that arrive on the new planet and settle there.
But the Clergy were not keepers of a single faith, because not all people practice the same faith, not on earth today and certainly not in the future.
On NewEarth, the Clergy were the moral centers, the teachers of right and wrong and they were supposed to help educate the coming generations in philosophy and understanding of the human need to find faith. Instead, there was a conflict as humans began to bond with the new planet and the Clergy family wanted people to turn against the power the planet was granting them.
By the time Gordon’s Pride takes place, the first in the series, very few Clergy remain and they are no longer respected for their family contributions. Humans can be hard hearted when they are forced to turn away from authority when it no longer answers their needs.
In a later book you will meet a woman who was born from a Clergy family. She joins the Combined Territories and brings some unique talents and gifts that are appreciated by all of Grabon and Heron’s clan.
