Mia the Storyteller

If you have read Grabon’s Nest or Acceptance, you might have met Mia, the clan storyteller. she is a wonderful mate to Pit and has the amazing ability to relay the old dragon stories, new dragon stories, and even new human stories in the traditional manner.

Story telling is an honored position in any dragon clan. It is how dragons learn of other traditions, how they learn to react to certain things. All of their stories are lessons as well as entertaining. Each story teller adds their own flair to the story, individualizes the telling with fresh images, sound effects, aded words and projected feelings.

One of the stories that never made it into Grabon’s Nest, was the Tale of Bon’s Mood. Here is a shorter version of the original tale.

There was a young dragon, only 13 cycles and Bon was frustrated with his body. His wings had not yet grown enough to begin practicing ground soaring. His claws and talons were not impressively sharp or strong. Because of his frustration he stopped communicating with his sire, his sire’s mate, and all the visitors that stopped by his sire’s nest. He was banished to sit on the wall because he could not force himself to follow the rules of conduct. His frustration led him to turn his back on everyone and sit in dejected isolation.

Bon had sat on the wall for more than ten days and nights, willing his body to change, begging the planet to gift him with flight so he could escape the nest and make his own way and explore the world. He did not acknowledge the old dragon who brought him fish each day and offered to tell him the rules for awandering the many territories he had seen and experienced. He curled his lip at the female who brought him fresh skins of clear water twice a day and offered to show him how to make his own skin pouches.

Bon was determined to sit in his own misery until a youth landed beside him with a few wobbles. New youths needed to practice their landings many times before they were confident in the skill. As Bon and Heps sat and talked, the mood that had held Bon hostage lifted as he learned of future challenges and concerns.

Many times a dragon can be caught in a mood and the only way to force your way past it, is to converse with someone and think of something else. Sitting and thinking about your frustrations will only make them worse.
