Making it Easy

In our highly modernized world, you can shop to make things easy. After spending the day packing yesterday, I suggested to my dear partner Shawn, that we run out to Walmart, get a roasted chicken and a few sides.

Naturally we added to the list, then I drove as I need as much practice as possible. We got our non perishable items first, that only makes sense and then went through foods. I was in time to see the last roasted chicken go out the door in someone elses’s hands.

I even asked, but no such luck. They were sold out. It turns out Monday is a popular day for rotisserie chicken, who knew? Anyway I saw that fried chicken was available. Shawn suggested the Kentucky Fried, it is on the way, but this looked good enough to me, and cheaper.

I suggested potato salad, he says he wanted mashed. I saw the corn on the cob. All thoughts of making it fast, easy, and with fewer dishes ran out of my head.

As it turned out the fried chicken was not what we wanted, it was too crispy, overcooked by our standards, gummy tasting and sad. The mashed potatoes, which I had at home in a mix were good.

The gravy slid from it’s label after being heated in the microwave. What could have been a catastrophe was averted because I stepped back and only my palm was burnt. It made a mess on the floor, but that was quickly cleaned up. The corn on the cob was the end of the season corn, but it was still good.

Needless to say, my plan to save time, effort and labor was completely derailed. Oh, and we forgot to get dog food!

This is why the modern idea of labor saving purchases does not work for us.
