Maggie
If you have read book 3, The Heartsinger, you met Dotty’s sister Maggie. If not, read no farther because there are too many points that are giveaways. Half the fun of this story is finding the clues for yourself to put together the larger picture.
As a reader, did you like Maggie when you first met her? Someone told me they were thrilled to see a strong female who was not afraid to speak her mind. Wow, I think she was a little disappointed. Maggie of course is a killer, lacks all conscience and was taken to a healer as a prepubescent to have limits put on her ability to draw power from the planet.
Maggie was dangerous as a young child and grew more so as she matured. Dot, or Dotty as she later is called, is the older and less favored child in the family. To gain approval from her parents, Dot worked as hard as she could, because she felt that her parents approval was conditional and had to be earned.
Did her parents do anything to make her feel that way? Was it Maggie distorting her relationship with her parents? What made Dot feel like it was all right to do all the work while Maggie did less? More interesting questions…
