Imagination
I am a firm believer that everyone is born with an imagination. Like any muscle or skill, the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Many people put their thoughts in a box because they wander to far and fast to contain.
Maybe they don’t enjoy the adventure of seeing where those thoughts are going, or maybe as children they were punished for making things up. Whatever and however it happens, people strangle their imaginative side and inclinations. That’s why we have billion-dollar industries in books, film, and television where we can sink into someone else’s imaginary world and get lost.
I enjoy other people’s edited and polished visions of their stories as much as anyone, maybe even more; but I also love the creations in my own head. I love building characters and seeing how they grow and change. I love setting up stories and seeing what happens as I try different characters out to see what will happen. Mostly I love telling stories to readers that wake them up, make them think, break their hearts, or make them proud of who they are.
So grab a book, sink into a movie, or show and take in an adventure, but be sure to let your own imagination run wild. And no matter what, read to a happy place. 😄
