Humans of NewEarth

Going back to the origin story of NewEarth, which by the way I have half written and drafted out and currently labeled The Prequel, the humans were recruited from all over Earth. Let me set the stage…

The planet earth had suffered many stages of environmental disasters as well as political upheaval. The year is set at some distant future time, technology is lifesaving and critical to survival. Industry on every continent had used up most of the non renewable resources. Water was being brought to earth from other planets, or synthesized and it is expensive. Radiation flares pose a danger to people who work outside without proper equipment, radiation storms, earthquakes and other natural dangers are common place. Corporations which are part of world wide conglomerates own pieces of government that regulate industry. It is a mess, but many corps have taken to harvesting resources from other planets and selling them at an enormous price.

EarthCorp has a disaster at mining, losing not only human miners, but polluting and destroying other resources of the planet they are taking minerals from. They need to turn around their bad publicity. Someone comes up with the idea of giving a group of “Greenies” a planet and a chance to have a low to no tech life they are always screaming about, while still making some profit off the deal.

They hastily find a planet that had been bypassed for development because it had limited resources, but it has plenty of water, clean air and wood. They advertise their “Eden” and the low cost of transport to people willing to pioneer and establish settlements based on a no tech, low tech covenant. The catch is that the cost of their return ticket is huge, the cost of materials to transport is huge, and half of everything they produce goes back to the corporation in exchange they will provide some support as needed and communication.
