Humans are Social
Recently is has occurred to me that my job where I speak face to face with 500+ people every day and try to educate the public about the benefits of solar power puts me in a bad place as far as the virus goes. I wear a mask and have been vaccinated and boosted, and I also sanitize and do my best to keep a little space. However, talking with that many people all the time puts me and all the people I care about at risk, so I have been exploring a few options.
When I started looking at working from home, I thought about how much fun I had when I was writing full time. Only all my characters would not be there keeping me company and how would that work if I also wanted to write? I would be spending all my time locked in my home office. I am really good with alone time, but seriously I need interaction as well.
So I began looking around and sent out my resume… talk about interaction. I got job matches for fixing tires! I have never been a bartender, nor a hairdresser. Nobody would ever mistake me for the IT person and let’s be real, I enjoy doing all kinds of things, but I am getting older and fatter and have to plan getting up and down from the floor.
Anyway, the day job is needed to pay for my writing habit, so the search continues looking for the perfect place to use my talents and maybe have a little less public contact… unless things pick up again and my sales go through the roof.
It is a great time to be a worker and pick and choose what kind of work you want to do, but it is important to find something that matches. Kind of like choosing one’s purpose and place as they do in the Combined Territories of NewEarth. But that’s why I write fairytales and create a better world. We all need to seek glimmers of hope, light, and love!
