Holiday Thanks!

Like a lot of people, I make a point of gifting homemade cookies and such to people who are often unacknowledged but contribute greatly to the quality of my life.

I am sure it would have been entertaining watching Shawn and I packaging up the candied nuts and cookies for our garbage collector and our recycling guy. Nuts were bagged and in the tin, cookies were placed in the tin, card on top, in a ziplock bag with a bow on top, taped to the top of the garbage can, so as to be visible. It was a crazy process, but it worked.

When we first lived in Alaska, in two different villages, there was no such thing as garbage pickup. Everyone brought their own garbage to the dump, lit it on fire, and tried to avoid the bears and other predators. Every so often someone would bulldoze the burnt remains. It gives you an appreciation for the people who do manage all that for you.

Earlier this month we had found a mailbox tin and filled that with candied pecans and two different kinds of spice cookies and set it in our mailbox along with a card. We really appreciate our mail carrier who actually walks house to house delivering mail. Another service that is easy to take for granted.

In that spirit of thankfulness and appreciation, thanks for reading my blog posts and joining me on this literary journey. I hope you are entertained, encouraged, and motivated to read my books, but above all I wish everyone a wonderful holiday filled with family, friends, love, and acceptance. May we all have a peaceful and healthy next year.

I’ve nearly always left homemade cookies for our mailman/woman. None this year, but our old faithful mailman just retired
and we don’t know this new one yet. Maybe next year!
