Heron and Trissy
Trissy struggled not to let Heron see what his descriptions of his past meant to her or how she felt like she could not compare to his first love. It is terrible to have a ghost rival, a memory to compete with that is enshrouded in perfection. Trissy was not so secure in her own skin and desirability that she handled that easily, but until the bond between them was complete, Heron continued to have no idea. That at least gave her a little more time to come to grips with her feelings of inadequacy.
He was discomfited when he realized that such a wealth of thoughts and feeling as she must contain were not open to him. Usually his mind collected all manner of thoughts from others, but Trissy’s mind seemed quiet and contained. It was a relief, it was an annoyance, it left him wondering what else she had hidden deep inside. It never occurred to him that she lacked confidence or felt that his memories could threaten her future.
