Happy Endings
Yes, I choose to write fairytales. They may be aimed at adults, but they are more than fantasy, they are optimistic bombs, set to warm your heart. A bit like a psychic, fantasy-based Hallmark special. Someone even compared my books to Little House on the Prarie with the dragons thrown in for color. I took that as a compliment, by the way.
We all need stories to help us cope with the hard parts of life, to accept what is inevitable, to fight evil, to relish and savor the good parts of life. Fairytales are good for that, horror stories not as much. Nothing wrong with a good scare, but some people need to feed the hope chest not the coffin in their mind.
The truth, for me, has always been that I prefer to seek out the happy. I know despair, pain, hopelessness, and fear exist. At one time we were friends, but I walked away. I chose a different path and usually my feet just find that path without any guidance. Once in awhile something blasts my path to happy and I need to forge a new way to find it. I like to think of that as shovel time. Hopefully my stories can light the way for others to find their way to make their own happy endings.
Just don’t follow Grabon’s example and throw your problems into the rocks. Read your way to a happy place and enjoy!
