Hanna
When Hanna first sees Gordon, she notices his height, the size of his arms, the stubborn set of his jaw. Like most abuse victims, she notices his anger, his frown, and she tries to appease him using a variety of tricks.
Later, when Hanna feels the connection to the planet come back to her, she notices Gordon’s power, how it radiates off him in waves so strong they seem to push others away. That pillar of strength that scares everyone else, becomes her shelter and safety, a force she can trust to keep all the bad people away from her.
Hanna is not afraid of Gordon as soon as she realizes all his strength is on her side. Grabon and Heron don’t scare her with their physical and psychic abilities because they are kind to her and they see her as part of Gordon. Jamie and Janie are part of her trusted circle, because they were nice to her when others were not and Hanna would never repay that with anything but kindness in return.
Gordon’s Pride is a story about Hanna’s survival and how she becomes the pride of one of the strongest humans on the planet. How she befriends Heron, the human companion of Grabon, and accepts him as family. And of course it is about Hanna’s connection to the young territory dragon, Grabon, and how she changes his understanding of humans.
Of course, Gordon’s Pride is also about family; love and hate. It is about friendship and the positive and negative influences friends can have. It is about love and commitment, hope and trust. Each character is on a journey and it just so happens that their paths cross and they are able to enrich one another.
