Free Time

I was gifted with a bit of free time today so I took advantage and went exploring in my library pulling out books and reading well loved passages from my favorite authors. It warms my heart and fills my cup with inspiration. So many wonderful words…

I have recently been looking at word origins and phrases, weeding out phrases and usage that are prejudicial and offensive and if they are not yet, they will be when people think about it. Our language is so riddled with phrases that foster prejudice that it takes real effort to weed them out and come up with something else. To change thinking in our society, it starts with language. That makes people aware of the underlying messages. It also annoys them because lets face it, nobody likes to be corrected, or to realize they have been contributing to the problem without even knowing.

Most good people I know, realize that people are people no matter their skin, religion, sexuality, gender, disability, ability, or politics. But we all need to watch our language to keep hate out and stop the past from taking over.
