Fixing it Up

In book 4, Hess tells LeeAnn that Hanna and Trissy had fixed up their barn, making it as comfortable as possible. In book 6 Porter mentions that the females of the clan had done the same for him when he had taken over one side of the barn. They do it again when Lars moves in, supplying food, blankets, and Hanna contributes a statue of some kind, welcoming the newcomer as a member of the clan.

Jamie and Janie, Hanna and Trissy all did what they could for Brom, making him a table, bed and a sled for his youngster. But when Pia came and settled in, they did something different, welcoming a new domestic female to their ranks, including her in their activities and sharing ideas. It is a cultural difference, but as you can see with Glinarca, it is not driven by gender, but rather in self adopted roles. If one is a fighter, one has certain skills and probably lacks others. If one is domestic, one probably has good domestic skills and lack others.

When Fost arrives and forms the bond with Glinarca, that role has to shift because while Fost is a fighter, he is also domestic and Glinarca is not. Book 7 comes out in January and includes the story of Glinarca and Fost along with Brom and Mox.
