First Meeting
It was a sunny day, both suns were high in the pale green sky. Grabon the immature but brilliant territory dragon had just left Timora’s Territory, where he had learned that not all territory dragons chose to claim a territory during their life time; some chose to serve the needs of the planet by using their strength in other ways. It was a revelation that just because the tendrils on his powerline existed, didn’t mean he was locked into the choice of claiming a territory, nurturing and defending a clan, and staying in one place for the rest of his life. His mind was filled with the possibilities of his life, all the options open to him as he settled beside a river to take a splash and drink before going on his way. Maybe he would catch a fish or two…
As his feet settled on the rocks, he looked up and saw what must be a human. He had never seen one, only heard that the little beasts were easily startled. They had been brought to the planet in flying baskets and set down. Their species must have been endangered on another planet with a superior population and someone brought a breeding colony of them to help preserve their kind. Grabon had heard stories about them throwing all manner of things at other curious dragons. They were easily frightened and had no real communication skills. Generally they did not roam far from others of their kind.
Grabon stood completely still as he carefully looked around, hoping to see some of the others. The only thing better than seeing one human, would be seeing more. Maybe he could study them and find out more about them. He met the gaze of the human and he was startled to realize that a pathway of communication opened.
It did not take Grabon long to realize that what little he thought he knew about humans was wrong. This human was alone, he communicated, oddly but still – he used sounds, gestures, emotion, and pictures. He was obviously more advanced than Grabon had been led to believe. Also, he didn’t throw anything, or try to run and hide. This odd white haired creature was worth studying. With a little effort they might be able to communicate more fluidly. As always, Grabon had a great curiosity and he relished the idea of knowing something that all the other territory dragons did not.
