Festive Food

On NewEarth, festive food does not seem to follow the same pattern as we have on old earth. Here we tend to go with a giant protein and multiple side dishes. On NewEarth it is multiple sources of protein and a few side dishes. Is this because it is easier to collect protein and harder to gather other food sources?
