Did You Know
Did you know that Hanna has anxiety? Had you noticed that Gordon was ostracized by his peers, Grabon was made fun of and criticized as a youth. Very few of my characters had easy childhoods and if they did, something else happened to them along the way.
As a teacher and growing up myself I met very few people who had an easy time of maturing. It is filled with challenges, torments and difficulties for everyone. One of the most destructive myths is that childhood is easy, should be perfect and picturesque. Nothing is easy about becoming, growing, learning, expanding, and forming. It is difficult, filled with mistakes, judgement and discouragement, but absolutely necessary.
The alternative is a short casket with a grieving family filled with guilt and blame. Nobody wins that way.
In my stories everyone struggles, everyone is flawed and everyone grows, learns, becomes better, and realizes their strengths and finds productive ways to participate and contribute, finding value and hope for themselves. That gives all of us hope… which is the point.
