Crying over Characters

One of the strangest parts of being a writer is that these characters that I build become very real to me and I laugh over their triumphs and cry over their failures and sometimes what happens to them breaks my heart. In Gordon’s Pride I shed my first tear when Hanna tries to hand Gordon her beads. Not only does it give him access to what she knows about her circumstances, but it is proof that the poverty she has been living in is a result of what was done to her, not a lack of fortune and skill, but a lack of strength to protect her own interests. In Heron’s Bonds I cried through so many parts, but Matti… well that was hard.
