Coffee with Dad

Getting up early and letting the dogs out. It’s something my dad and I have been doing together most of my adult life when we’re under the same roof. Then we meet in the kitchen for that first rich cup of coffee. This morning was no different. He reached the coffee pot long before I did, so it was brewed and waiting.

Traditions in a family are important. Some are huge, like those for the holidays or death rituals and births. Some are quiet things that signify the “way we do things,” not actually being wrong or right just the family way.

I enjoy being around my parents; the comfort and tradition, familiar ritual with consistent understanding of who we are and our purpose. I tried to instill that in my people of NewEarth, the building of society, of family.

The world we live in is a blending of many traditions, languages, and culture with each family choosing their own.
