Cleaning
Someone asked me why I have characters wasting valuable story time doing mundane tasks like cleaning, and I laughed and said I waste considerable living time doing those tasks; and lots of valuable things happen during that time.
Some of my best discussions with family and friends have happened while washing dishes. You wash, I’ll dry and we’ll talk. It is amazing how much will spill out while hands are busy with a mundane but necessary task.
Hanna even discovers an amazing cleaner and shares the secret with all the other females. Nobody mentions to Griss that his well loved and valuable wine, when added to soapy water will clean fabric and even take soot off of stone. It works so well that it even removes fish smells.
In our modern world where men and women are working the majority of their waking hours, accomplishing those mundane chores of survival needs to happen relatively quickly, but it can still include valuable bonding and secret sharing.
