Aging Adventures

As I grow older I enjoy noticing all the changes, and personal, societal, and social expectations that happen with gray hair and a few extra creases and lines on the face. My mother had a lot of grace and dignity, I have much less of that, more creativity and curiosity. All the same, getting older is an adventure and one I am privileged to experience. Many people I have known never got the chance.

My latest observations include how easy it is to lose flexibility. In the past, my foot went easily above my waist. It didn’t matter how fat or thin I was, my joints simply worked, ligaments stretched and so forth. Lately, if I am not actively working to maintain flexibility, I stiffen up like a corn cob. My hips don’t want to flex, my knees complain, my shoulders lock up. Well that makes yoga more of a necessity than a luxury for combining meditation and physicality.

Since I don’t want to walk like I have stiff joints and I enjoy being able to move to do all the things I like to do, I guess a regular schedule of physical stretching and flexing needs to be maintained. Who knew that aging came with a chore list?

Anyway, cheers to aging adventures, avoid the corn cob regression and do some yoga.

Happy reading everyone.
