Why Deceive

In order to keep a low profile, Heron had to play the pet or he might have been hunted for sport in one of the territories. Worse, he and Grabon would have been separated. As long as Grabon was not mature, they could not risk Heron being seen as an equal. The same is true for Grabon among the humans. As it is, when Grabon reveals himself and begins to forge connections with the humans, they are confused and consider hunting or hurting him. It takes real courage to face that type of condemnation.
