Fiction and Fantasy
I read something today that made me cry. Not in a bad way, but it renewed my optimism on the good of humanity.
If you are paying attention to this divided, hate filled, chaotic world; you know that good often takes the way back seat to the ugly, self-interest, and greed of mankind. But this wonderful story about a group of Hell’s Angels helping an old woman in the aftermath of a tornado, had me sobbing.
Was it fictional? A bit of pure fantasy? Probably, but it still touched a part of my heart I had forgotten was there. We need fiction, we need fantasy, romance, and the chance to imagine the good and light of decency. If we aren’t in a place to experience equality in our lives, we need it in our fiction, clear enough to taste it, see it, and embrace it.
This old world where our feet are planted, is not always kind or fair. We have the ability to dream of a better existence, to share those dreams, to examine new ideas in the land of pretend. Without that ability, we would still be in caves, wearing skins and hunting with sharpened sticks.
It is time to imagine a better world, a nice world, a kinder world, where maybe things are challenging, but there are some universal protections for people. Feel free to step into my world of NewEarth and see what you think.
