Career Change

For many years I did the same job. The location changed, the clients changed, but very often the job was the same. Now I am doing something totally new and different and yet there are a few constants.

People have the ability to surprise me. Sometimes because their behavior is so outlandish, over the top, that it makes me giggle. Other times, that outlandish behavior is dangerous to others and possibly even themselves.

Occasionally people surprise me because they have a huge capacity for kindness, love, and acceptance. In other instances humans amaze me because of their dedication to hate, cruelty, and nastiness to others.

Another constant between the two sides of my life is that many people want to be helpful. They are willing to do many things to help as long as it is their idea. If asked, they may do a task graciously or reluctantly, but never with the same enthusiasm as they had when they came up with an idea themselves.

My last observation for the day is that people feel a drive to ridicule others who step outside the norm of behavior. This applies to clothing, habits, mannerisms, and speech patterns. We can work hard to stop bullies, but it becomes a herd mentality, they are the ones outside the norm. The tendency to ridicule what is different is not limited to age, sex, race, or any other factor as far as I can tell. We like our people firmly inside the box.
