Sewers and Drains

I have never aspired to be a plumber, but I know how valuable those skills are. Indoor conveniences like running water have always been high on my priority list and greatly appreciated. Having the sewer back up into my laundry room and leave a trail of sewage run off through my storage area is not an experience I wanted to repeat after the first time.

Before the plumbers could rod out the tree roots from our sewer line, it backed up again. As I sucked up bucket after bucket of water, I comforted myself with the knowledge that it was going to be fixed.

Last night when I got home and took a shower after killing off colonies of mosquitoes around my parents place it acted up again. I had been sweat drenched and covered in insect poison before a long soaking shower. Then I threw in a load of laundry before sitting down to a lovely meal Shawn prepared. When I went down to change over my work clothes, sewer water was everywhere.

I sucked up gallon after gallon, carting it outside and sucking up some more. Thank goodness I have a carpet cleaner that really makes fast work of cleaning up a liquid mess. Then this morning I called the plumber. His suggestion is to dig up the yard and put in a cleaning out trap, close to the street. This is not a cheap or fast fix.

Discouraged, I went to work and spoke with a few of the plumbers who work with me. They had another idea, a chemical combination with a root killer and dissolver along with a foaming distribution chemical. Our fingers are crossed and we’ll see if it works. Thirty dollars worth of chemicals may save us a couple of thousand dollars. I’ll let you know what happens.

Hoping for success! I know about backed-up sewers – not pretty. Best wishes.
