New Job
As I complete my second full month, I am feeling more comfortable with sales. It is very different from teaching school, very different from writing and promoting, and yet- I find some skills are definitely cross overs.
The benefits are unmistakable, there is a positive culture of support, commission checks, flexible hours, and the knowledge that we are supporting the environment, the planet, the human population. I am selling solar power systems not only to the wealthy, but to the average home owner if their houses qualify.
As I said to a customer the other day, “it’s a good deal for the homeowner- saving some bills, a good deal for my company- earning some bills, and great for the planet.”
If only it was good for my 🦶. Last week I walked 40+ miles. Of course I get my steps in, no need for extra walking or yoga, except the need to stretch out occasionally, but I am definitely getting my exercise. From that standpoint the new job is good for my heart.
So far the shoes are holding up, but I see some new shoes in my future. Little by little my feet are cramping less. Of course that could be the new socks. Support socks with graduated compression are important not only to support heart health, but to support your legs and feet when doing a huge amount of standing and walking. Thanks Amazon for having a great range of choices and designs.
My dragons do a significant amount of walking in the Combined Territories. Do you suppose a dragon might need something like support socks? I wonder what they could be made out of in that environment. I’ll do some research on that.
Needless to say, while the new job is taking up a lot of time, it hasn’t dulled my imagination or enthusiasm for my fictional world. The Hunter is still with Jo in editing. I am hoping to hear something soon.
Shoes ~ Be sure you get shoes with great arch support! Otherwise you’ll be dealing with a lot of lower back pain – and maybe leg pain, too. Hope you find some that
will work for you. Your teaching was mainly sitting, wasn’t it? Mine was mostly standing and walking up and down, so I feel your pain!
Glad you are liking the new job. And, really, isn’t teaching a form of selling? And vice versa?
I did a lot of walking, talking with kids, climbing under tables etc, but not seven to ten miles a day. I have been clocking it daily and I walked 40 miles at work this past week.
