Acclimating
Clearing snow has become a regular thing. The more we do it, the more accomplished we become. Shawn and I are developing patterns for clearing away the piles of fluffy white. We have also had a good time working together.
In my most recent adventures of acclimating to a new house, in a new town, we discovered another good restaurant. It is an Asian buffet, great food, nice service. My folks discovered it first and we all went this weekend. It is definitely a winner and not too far from home, which is always a bonus.
I have started the process of looking for a job, and I am seriously considering some kind of classroom, teaching position. I miss the kids, the interaction, that rush of feeling like what you are doing makes a difference. Working in other places, doing other things just doesn’t have the same appeal.
To that end, getting a teaching job, I am hoping to talk to someone about updating my Illinois certificate. I’ll let everyone know how that goes. Jumping through hoops is always an experience. I am anticipating an FBI background check, drug testing, finger printing, and I will probably have to have every University I attended send copies of transcripts to the Illinois Office.
Adding to the excitement, yesterday the truck’s breaks started making noises. That’s enough to scare anyone- as the snow is flying, the roads were a slippery mess and the stopping mechanism while working seemed to be complaining. Needless to say, that bounced up the chain of priorities. The truck goes in early to see a mechanic. We would have taken it in today, but with President’s Day, being a holiday, there was no room.
The best of the acclimation for this week was getting the new chairs in place, a new rug for the living room and one for the bathroom. I have no doubt that things will move and shift, but I am starting to feel like we belong and are not just visiting.
I would be honored to write a glowing report as a cooperating teacher, should you need one. I could
mention our working together to create the “Shakespeare in Action!” course.
Good luck with the truck’s brakes! And keep the pics coming of Shawn’s wonderful snow-clearing machine!
