Dotty

Can you imagine having a crazy sister who killed your parents? Let’s not consider the fact that Maggie poisoned her a little bit every day, tore apart her confidence, and resented the hell out of her. We can pretend that Dotty’s parents meant well and intended no harm in the way they treated Dotty as opposed to Maggie, and that might be true. Their actions could have been based on ignorance, they could have been trying to look after her. But imagine knowing that your sister, the girl you grew up with, shared everything with, was secretly responsible for killing your mother, and later your father.

Dotty is an extraordinary woman. She has a talent that can repair a broken heart, but even more, she has the capacity to try and defend a sister that was so far beyond forgivable.

As readers get to know her and see the scope of her abilities, from her physical strength bit to the heartsinging she is still learning, I still think her character, forgiveness, and kindness are what makes her shine.

Later in the series when she meets Pia, readers can experience another facet of her personality as she embraces a musician that is different and instead of dwelling on the differences, they embrace what they have in common, learn from one another, perform together and combine their power for the good of the clan.
