Freezing Rain Survival

When this latest freezing rain fell, it came down in small chunks that melted and froze in place amid other small chunks, creating a frozen maze to walk and drive on. When Jethro, our mighty elderly mutt, decided to go out, we took him on a leash out through the garage avoiding the slicked out cement steps and I donned my Alaskan ice cleats and boots before I took him out and about. Both of us managed to keep our feet under us. Him, because he has four foot drive, me well, the cleats have saved my life before. If you have to walk on slick ice, get a pair of ice fishing cleats that strap to your boots. In many places you can find them in the sport section of Walmart, coming in several different brands. One caution though, ice cleats do not work on floors, it is a lot like ice skating, or they wreck your floors.

So sorry you got the ice. We were supposed to, but got only light rain and a lot of fog!
