2 Suns, 2 Moons
One of the joys of worldbuilding is coming up with the physical world for a story. In the case of the NewEarth Series I decided on a sentient planet, female, with two suns that she orbits around with two moons that rotate around her. In making that choice I had to figure rotation, times, size and so forth. It was quite the challenge. The atmosphere is slightly different giving the day a greenish cast with both suns visible for the majority of the day, and night a short period of total darkness and more time with one and then second moon shining at the same time, giving an erie green glow and less light as first moon sets and last moon finally falls below the horizon, leaving the world dark again before first sun rise.
CTime markers was another challenge. I wanted to move away from a clock, yet the day would be longer, as would the night from an earth day and night. Humans had long ago adjusted, so the hour from earth would mean nothing. A sun dial would not work with 2 suns and 2 moons and different time markers relating to their natural world made more sense.
Did my time markers work seamlessly in the stories? Let me know.
I’m just so fascinated with the two suns and two moons, I never thought about markers.
