Family and Fun

I was able to spend most of the day helping to decorate my parents tree and house. It was great and we had a wonderful time going over the stories about the different orniments while my mother played the keyboard, filling the house with music.

After collecting orniments not only my whole life, but from before my birth, my parents own quite a collection. I imagine they could cover a forty foot tree with a decoration on every branch, so the hardest part is deciding which orniments to use and which to place safely back in a box and store for one more year, or ten as the case may be.

However, ornaments are not the only decoration you collect over a lifetime. I know this for myself as the decorations for the walls, tables, curtain rods and outside seem to multiply during storage. How many Christmas tablecloths do I need? How many strings of lights? Do I need three wreaths? It came as a surprise when the new house has three doors, so yes, we are using all of them this year.

My parents have candles, dust collectors, statuary, and soft sculptures for the holidays. They are all carefully wrapped and each year a few come out. It is amazing how a collection of decorations can hold so many brilliant memories. I am sentimental about the holidays and I come by it honestly. My whole family enjoys the trip down memory lane.

So for everyone, everywhere, enjoy the holiday, whether your family is blood, close friends, or a combination of the two, enjoy them and have a great time in this season of memories.
