Thaw Days! š
When winter comes up fast and hits with a bang, it creates a problem for many gardeners. This year, my dad turned 80 but he and my mom recently bought a new place and he has a couple of hundred, yes that was correct, a couple of hundred bulbs he wanted to plant before the snow so they would come up in the spring. The ground froze before and during my move around November 1. Very early for this area.
I also recently moved and have a few hundred bulbs. No we are not crazy, exactly, but we like flowers and the more flowers, the more colors, the better the world feels as it yawns and comes back from the long sleep of winter. So we have been waiting for a good thaw so we could drag out the shovels and plant the bulbs. We watched as Thanksgiving approached and I actually shook my finger at the weather man. Yes the thaw is arriving now!
Not only is there the tryptophan haze from turkey, the exhaustion from shopping, but food storage plans have to be re-examined. The garage is no longer a freezer, is it even safe as a fridge? All kinds of questions arise, but I am putting on grubbies and hard shoes to dig in the dirt, because no matter what happens today, spring will come and I want flowers, lots and lots of flowers.
Have a splendid weekend everyone, Iām off to dig in the dirt!
