What Other Story

One of the big questions from publishers, writers, readers, publicists is what book does yours resemble. Is it a “Steven King” type? Is it more of a “Feehan” story line? Are your dragons like Pern dragons? What writer do you emulate in style?

Those questions always leave me stammering. Well, my stories are certainly not like King, no horror, no gore. I use the idea of a mating bond, but differently that Feehan or Leigh, or any other writer that I know of. It is a psychic bond of lives, thoughts, emotions and sensations. My dragons are mammals- so not like Pern or McCafferey’s at all. They are also more articulate and philosophical, studied, and self-aware, in many cases more than humans.

Do I write like anyone else? I have no idea. I certainly read a great deal and I admire a ton of writers, most of them, in fact, but do I emulate their style? I have no idea. My themes are light, but darkness exists, evil exists, death is present as is tragedy. Humans and dragons are imperfect, disabilities are present, coped with, accepted and lived with in what I hope is a healthy and respectful manner.

Human nature is explored both internally and externally. There is a heavy focus on emotions, between the characters and individually. As far as who I resemble, or what stories are similar? I have a bit of everything, yet resembling nothing. A critical review said it reminded him of Little House on the Prairie, the TV series, and I love that description, with the focus on characters, lessons and hope. My dad says the stories remind him of a hallmark special, that one works for me as well.
