Equality
In every one of the NewEarth books, equality is a theme. The equal treatment of humans and dragons, the equal treatment of dominants vs nondominants. Even the equal treatment of territory dragons and clan dragons.
They debate fair as opposed to equal, they discuss the value and consequences of equality, and they note each difference between Grabon’s territory and everyone else’s.
In modern America, when we talk about equality, there really are two sides. Legal equality is not the same as social equality. Some people in our modern times thinks to be treated equally legally and socially means everyone needs to look, dress, act, believe, and speak the same.
Most Americans don’t believe in strict conformity, but they are uncomfortable with certain differences. They are willing to overlook someone being different, as long as it is a difference they approve. Because somehow they believe that they get to choose what others can do. I wonder if secretly they are territory dragons and simply are not self aware?
The absurdity is that Americans believe in freedom, but maybe only for themselves and people just like them. I am a proud American, but people’s words, actions, and advancements of ideas do not make sense to me. We need to redefine freedom in America, we need to agree on a definition of equality. We need to have those conversations in order to keep this country intact, because we are all assuming different definitions and we lack a territory dragon with sufficient wisdom and authority to define it for us.
