Next Hopeful House

As most have now heard, we are a little disappointed. The house we had our sights on, the deal fell through. The initial report showed a bit of radon accumulation, usually a well placed fan can blow it out or maybe a vent installed. Because that first report sent up a red flag, we had the building inspector run a second test. The second test was higher. So we had the lawyer send a letter that said basically fix or we won’t buy.

You would think this would be a no brainer, but while there is a small very old basement section under the house, the rest is on a very small, very inaccessible crawl.

They refused to put in a venting system for the radon and even as we tried to think of solutions, we realized that if we bought it as is, we might have to escivate that crawl in order to vent it properly. No matter how you look at that, you are talking some serious 💰 so we let that hopeful house go.

After a few minutes, I started the next search, came up with four possible houses, my Mom came up with two more and we are back on the hunt, no more than 15 minutes from the family property and in a less than busy location.

Our next hopeful house may not look as great on the surface, but it will be safe to live in. What is that saying, “All that glitters is not gold.”
