Meeting New People

Have you ever wondered what kind of first impression you make? I think about that occasionally and then I shrug. Pretty much I am beyond trying to change people’s minds, but I wonder how I look from the outside. There have always been those who hate me, a few who think I am interesting and many who see a value in what I do. Then there is the other side, my friends and family who all think I am fabulous, well most of the time.

I have always been good at first impressions, but I don’t always get it right. But then, by what standards do we judge ourselves at being “good” at first impressions? Obviously, we would be biased at judging ourselves. Then, as you asked, what about the impression we leave on others? Sometimes you get that feeling that someone you just met doesn’t connect with you as you might like them to, and that you have left a bad impression.

I think we should find strength in the knowledge that we can’t please (or make a great impression upon) everyone. And with that knowledge, realize there are so many people in the world that a single individual which we fail to “impress” is not going to make us or break us. The faster we can move beyond that experience, the stronger we become at moving through the sea of humanity.
