Labor Day

A huge thanks to all the hourly workers who stand, sit, drive, and climb for 40 or more hours a week to make a living and keep our world moving forward. It is not often that our sewer workers are recognized, but let me tell you we would all notice if the work stopped and things backed up. In America, we have a way of taking each other for granted.  Labor Day is a way of acknowledging all our hardworking people in our country.

Those who get paid by the hour and those who earn a salary. As a teacher I was always on salary so they could ask me to work 90 hours a week and pay me for less than 40. It’s funny how people could mock me for my two and a half month summers and holiday breaks and never notice the insane intensity of the school year. So a hearty thanks to teachers, professors and school workers across this nation who get paid far less than they should.

The truth is we need everyone. We need contributors in our society, workers, bosses, middle men and even the rich. We need thinkers, inventors, innovators and people who know how to build a business from scratch and make it boom. From the janitor to the CEO and stockholder, we need everyone in this country to keep it working and we need to work together as much as we can.

So fire up the BBQ, enjoy the day with family and friends, revel in an extra day of sleep and pay. You earned it!
